Programme
Below is an outline of the gardening programme. It is however, sometimes hard to know exactly what we will do each week, but the main aim of the gardening done over the six weeks will be to harvest the last of the 2025 year and prepare the garden to grow next year.
| Morning | Afternoon | |
| Week 1 12th November | Cultivation – we can use no dig techniques to reclaim and area of the garden for planting up. Remove perennial roots, add carboard and mulch with woodchip/compost/leaf mould. | Zine making workshop – zines are known as small handmade books, often made for publication. Most zines are made for print distribution either by individuals or collectives to share stories or political ideas or opinions. |
| Week 2 19th November | Composting – turning our existing compost heap. Adding to our dead hedge and learning what we can add to our fast hot composting bins. | Botanical inks – use homemade botanical inks to experiment with shifting colours. Make cards and paint calico. You can make and take home your own ink! |
| Week 3 26th November | Seed sowing – winter sowing for earlier crops. (broad beans, sweet peas etc) planting onion and garlic sets to grow over winter. Planting bulbs. | Embroidery – following on from week 2, you can use the hand painted calico to explore different embroidery stitches and techniques to create a textile pieces that can be hung on the wall. You can decide whether to sketch out an image to stitch over, or simply be inspired by the abstract shapes from the washes of ink. |
| Week 4 3 December | Potting on – moving on winter veg into the poly tunnel for winter growing | Concertina book making – Print your own front and back cover using monoprint techniques with leaves and plants from the garden. Add pages and pockets to your book. |
| Week 5 10th December | Propagation (cuttings) – taking semi ripe and hard wood cuttings from shrubs around the garden. Dividing plant stock from herbaceous borders | Willow Charcoal Making & Drawing – Make your own drawing material. Spend the morning gathering and processing the willow ready to burn. Once made, your charcoal can be taken home or given away as a gift. |
| Week 6 17th December | Grow Take cuttings to make new plants. Care and nurture smaller plants grown earlier in project and plant out. | Phytograms and Chemigrams – Learn some new experimental photography techniques using plants, abstract shapes and homemade developer. |
